amd 2000 xp
80 gig hard drive
1024 ddr
windows xp

hi, i recently changed my power supply and for some reason my graphics card is no longer being detected it isnt a power issue as the new power supply is nearly twice what the old power supply was and my gfx worked on the old power supply. instead of using the ti4600 in the properties-adapter tab it says unavailable beside were all the info on the gfx card should be and that it is using VGAsave i take it that its some sort of onboard card r somethin
ive made sure the ti4600 is screwed in correctly and and its insterted all the way into the AGP slot, the fan on it is also spinning, unless somethin else is wrong with it, it should be working.

i tryed telling it to disable the VGA save in the adapter tab, but when my comp restarted once it got passed the windows XP screen with the loading bar it sits there on a blank screen and it doesnt seem to be loading anything.
ive got the latest drivers i even tryed installin older ones but it didnt work :-(
anyone got any ideas?

310354 2005-01-03 20:15:00 have you tried putting the old psu back in to see if it is the psu. ILikeLinux (1669)
310355 2005-01-03 20:20:00 The geforce cards are Nvidia based arent they??

I take it the drivers, you mean the Nvidia drivers??

What exactly does VGAsave do?? that the Nvidia drivers can't do?

Maybe its VGAsave thats the prob? It gives the wrong info?? Nvidia drivers should give u the info u need for the card.

310356 2005-01-03 20:38:00 the old psu is dead just stopped workin so i put in a dif one but it supplied less power and i figured thts y my gfx wasnt working cause it didnt have enough power r something so i got a new one wit 550 watts but still isnt workin, i dont really know wht VGA save does it says its non plug and play bios r something. mickeyc (6724)
310357 2005-01-03 21:00:00 I would remove/uninstall vgasave, and go here:

www.nvidia.com

Download either the beta drivers, or click on Graphic driver/geforce and TNT2, then click on XP/2000 and download the WHQL Certified drivers.

Thats if u havent downloaded/installed the Nvidia drivers already.

310358 2005-01-03 21:04:00 ehh like i said if i try and disable the vga thingy my comp gets past the windows xp load screen and sits there on a blank screen, and i already have the latest drivers. mickeyc (6724)
310359 2005-01-03 21:11:00 Oh ok. Well there is definitely something else wrong with your system.

You SHOULDN'T need vgasave whatever that is or does.

310360 2005-01-03 22:07:00 do u think it could be with the graphics card itself or maybe the motherboard i was thinkin of upgradin to a 6800GT anyway this just motivates me to do it more but tht might not be till next week. mickeyc (6724)
310361 2005-01-03 22:10:00 Vgasave is designed to load automatically when the video card driver will not work, or if a video card driver refuses to work.

Vgasave should not be disabled. If you disable it and then reboot, it's likely that the system will not boot.

Either the drivers are faulty or the video card is damaged.

310362 2005-01-03 22:15:00 Umm, is SP1 or SP2 installed Mickey??

It might be a setting in the BIOS maybe?? That needs changing?

The videocard should be OK, I would say.

I would check in device manager under control panel, what it says under display adapters. I would also check Event viewer under control panel/admin tools. See if there are any errors. Let us know what they are.
