| 310055 | 2005-01-03 03:10:00 | A friend is running Windows XP Home and using M/s Works V3.0B word processor. He now seems unable to allocate file names longer than 8 letters but assures me he has been able to use longer file names in the past. Has he changed some setting somewhere by accident -- thanks | Mervyn (824) | ||
| 310056 | 2005-01-03 04:17:00 | The system requirements for MS Works 3.0 is Windows 3.1 or higher and MS-DOS. It is unlikely/impossible that they were ever able to save files longer than 8 letters under that version. The first version to support Windows 95's long file names was Works 4.0. You can rename the files under windows but files longer than 8 letters will be truncated (i.e. "a long filename.doc" will become "alongf~1.doc") in older applications which do not support them. | Alpha (3520) | ||
