310161 2005-01-03 08:25:00 Hey,

Is there any way I can make it so that the root user cannot access a users home folder?

The reason being is that a mate and I have an ftp server running, and we share things through ftp, and we can SCP into our home directories to store private files/documents.

However, I, being the one with the *linux knowledge * have the root password, so even though I wouldn't snoop, can I stop access anyway? - I may give him the root password at somestage as well

310163 2005-01-03 09:51:00 It is possible but VERY dangerous, I once removed roots privalages to / and as I found out much to my dismay, if you cant see the top level you cant see anything below that. I get a lot of practise reinstalling :D
I would not recommend doing this, one mistake and youll be looking at reinstall

310164 2005-01-03 10:07:00 Why not just give more power to your login account? Add your login name (as root) to the appropriate groups in /etc/passwd.

On a network there will always be an omnipotent sysadmin; it's just how networks function.

310165 2005-01-04 01:41:00 Who needs root privileges? Anyone who can reboot the computer while sitting at the console can do anything .

If anyone has anything they want kept secret can encrypt it . That will make it harder to see things .

Install this so any private docs can be encrpyted .

Probably a good idea since you are the one with linux knowledge to control root access as a great deal of damage can be done with it .
