310170 2005-01-03 08:15:00 Hey,

Is there software for Windows and Linux, that would allow me, using my XP Pro computer, to remote desktop into my Fedora Core 2 linux box?

I'm not just talking about sshing I mean real Remote Desktop kind of think like you can do with Windows -> Windows and Linux -> Windows.

Jen, Chill, that other linux person whose name i forgot... you know of anything?

Cheers,

Ash

310171 2005-01-03 08:35:00 You using KDE?

In kcontrol (KDE Control Center), under Internet & Network you should see "Desktop Sharing".

Thats what you're after :)

No Gnome.... thanks to the better integration in Fedora (even though I personally think KDE is miles better)

310173 2005-01-03 09:13:00 Well there's tightvnc which you can use to start seperate X session accessible via VNC.

AFAIK there's an app called gnome-vnc which is an extension on tightvnc:

310175 2005-01-03 09:36:00 Also have a look at this Fedora How-to on VNC - TUTORIAL: VNC (Virtual Network Computing) 101 (fedoranews.org).

You just need to have the Windows box running a suitable VNC client.

I had just finished reading that as I opened this thread again... Shows the benefits of googling before posting!

.... On that note, anyone know of any Linux 'Installfests' coming up? I'd be keen to go to one and get helped through a Gentoo install (just for the hell of it)

310177 2005-01-03 12:08:00 None in Auckland are planned for any time soon, but Im always happy to help.

I got started on Gentoo by spending a few hours with somebody likeminded who showed me how to sort my box out... Always happy to do likewise :)
