310155 2005-01-03 07:34:00 I have a problem when trying to shut down my PC.When I try to shut it down, it just restarts, and the only way I can shut it down is if I hold down he power button.I am running Windows XP Pro.

I would like to be able to shut down my Computer properly and would be grateful if anyone can tell me how to do that.

310156 2005-01-03 07:40:00 Is SP1 or 2 installed?? And are the proper video drivers installed for the videocard?? Might also be a setting in the BIOS for the power... Speedy Gonzales (78)

310158 2005-01-03 07:54:00 Service pack 2 is installed. I'm sure I have the proper video drivers installed,
And I haven’t changed a single BIOS setting in 3 years, so why would it affect the way windows shuts down now?

310159 2005-01-03 07:56:00 I have the same problem with my laptop running win xp pro sp2. If I leave it running for more than a few hours and then try to shut it down I have to wait 5 or 10 mins to get the shut down options screen up then another 5 mins for ir to shut down completely. If it is running for just a few mins I dont seem to get this problem?? seems strange to me, I had a pc tech take a look at it a few weeks ago and he said everything looks fine but obviously it aint! I wonder if it is a similar fault to what charith has? :badpc: miknz (3731)
310160 2005-01-03 08:42:00 Two years ago I had a virus that stopped my comp. from shutting down, it just rebooted itself on again. I had to stop it from the power point.
Sorry I cannot remember the name of the virus.
Worth checking.
