310753 2005-01-05 02:11:00 My Satellite 4080XCDT has a new hard drive and I have reinstalled Windows98SE. This notebook has an internal modem listed in the specs as "Internal 56K w/v.90 support". When I go thru the install modem procedure it configures itself to the serial port Com1 which I presume is for an external modem and anyway I want to use this port for something else. I cant find anything useful in the user manual about the modem other than it is internal. A telephone line connects to the modem socket by the usual modular? lead. When I try to connect to the net the dial-up box tells me "unable establish a connection". :help: Karen (1152)
310754 2005-01-05 02:44:00 Did you install the motherboard drivers after installing Windows?

Drivers for your modem are available from here ( . modem-drivers . com/drivers/2/2730 . htm" target="_blank">www . modem-drivers . com) if you need them .

From what I can remember after having a similar problem you will need to uninstall the modem from Device Manager and reinstall it manually (ie without the "detect new hardware" wizard) and direct it to the COM3 port . If there is no COM3 port in Device Manager you will need to add it in Add New Hardware .

310755 2005-01-06 07:48:00 Thanks Foxy - I couldnt find Com 3 as you suggested. However I have solved the problem by going to this url -

members.driverguide.com

This driver s403mdm9.exe must have been preinstalled into the 4080 by Toshiba. When this file is downloaded and executed it puts Com 2 into the picture but it still doesn't show in Device Manager, just to confuse us newbies.

Problem solved and AOK here. :D
