310741 2005-01-05 02:09:00 I just installed a new 30GB Maxtor Harddrive into my PC Company computer .

Ive gone into my BIOS and it recognises it and everything, but when i go into "my computer" it only has it as a 7GB harddrive . Now ive tried to write more data too it but once it gets too 7GB its says it's full .

How do i get it too let me use it as a 30GB drive?

Do i need to update my BIOS and how do i?

310742 2005-01-05 02:19:00 If the BIOS recognises it as 30G, you shouldn't need to update it. It may just have a 7G primary partition and no logical drives. Try using partitioning software and see what is showing up on the drive. :) 4bes (2848)
310743 2005-01-05 02:38:00 What Windows version are you using?

I think 4bes would be right. It seems like you have one 7GB partition and the other 23GB are 'not active'. To make it active, you need to make delete/add partitions then format. YOu should be able to do all this with your Windows installation disc.

310744 2005-01-05 03:19:00 Is it the only hard disk on the machine now? That is, did you use the PC Company CD to install the OS on it after removing the original, or is it just a "second" hard disk.

What OS are you using?

310746 2005-01-05 03:49:00 Try updating the BIOS . I know some systems have probs with bigger hdds .

I updated a system a while ago on an HP system .

The BIOS didnt know what an 20 or 80 GB was, (I think the original hdd was 8 or 10GB), and kept crashing the system on bootup . (After I had installed 2k on it) .

I updated the BIOS (the BIOS made it so hdd's over 80 GB could be used), and its going sweet as now .

310747 2005-01-05 23:21:00 fdisk.exe should be your ticket, delete all partitions and set a new primary using 100% of the drive space. tvgts (5773)
