310856 2005-01-05 07:48:00 Oops I thought he meant IE too. As below . My mistake :@@:

(IE> I can go make a coffee and come back and sometimes it still hasn't loaded).

310857 2005-01-05 11:20:00 It could also be a corrupted inbox, which has these symptoms.
To prove it, do a search for inbox.dbx, You may have to, in search, tick the top 3 boxes under " More Advanced Options " . Once found, copy to desktop. Also, rename the original to inbox.old.

Now open OE and see if it opens quicker. If it does, then go file-import-messages-outlook express6 and tick the Import from OE store, then direct it to your inbox.dbx on your desktop. If all works out OK, then you can delete the inbox.old and the inbox.dbx (on your desktop).

Also, while your at it, you can safely delete the " Deleted items.bdx " under the same directory. Outlook Express, when it starts, finding no inbox.dbx and or deleted items.dbx will make a new empty one. Quite safe to do.

310858 2005-01-05 14:12:00 Hi I am using outlook express6 and windows XP-pro.
The problems I am having is that outlook express now takes a very long time to load
Have you disabled Windows messenger. A/C to Ad-Aware, despite the fact that WinXP users have turned off the autostart, it continues to open when OE is used. This only happens on WinXP, not other versions of Windows.

Ad-Aware has an add-on that you can download.
It is: OE-W Messengerctrl
It prevents Windows Messenger from starting when OE launches and helps with faster load times when opening.

Ad-Aware also has an add-on - Messenger Control - which lets you enable and disable Windows Messenger. [ really the same as "Shoot the Messenger"]

Maybe some program you have installed lately has inadvertantly altered settings that prevented Windows Messenger from starting.

Just a thought anyway.

310859 2005-01-05 19:50:00 That drops a second or so off load times for Outlook Express.

I think what most people here have missed was that the user was dead serious about having enough time to make a coffee. I dunno bout the rest of you, but thats a damn long time to load Outlook Express. Even on my old 233Mhz, it'd load up in about 9-10 seconds flat.

My money's on it not being AVG because Ive had this problem on more than one occasion before, and this was before AVG came out.
Spyware shouldnt slow the PC down that much. It could, I guess, but orcha308 said that Ad-Aware had been updated and run!

This has happened for me with / without all the Service Packs.

This is the only way I could solve the problem:
www.mozilla.org

It'll import your messages and settings seamlessly. You wont be disappointed!

Chill.

Would agree with you there since there doesn't seem to be an answer to his problem.

But if someone does find out why this happens I'd love to know just in case I cop the same scenario. Add it to all the other bits and pieces I'm collecting.

310861 2005-01-06 02:32:00 Hi had same problem with AVG 7 bundled with Zone Alarm, already had Zone Alarm on computer, whether that caused a drastic slow download of Outlook Express e-mails.

Waited 45 minutes and said that's enough and uninstalled AVG 7, Zone Alarm is still on the machine, and working.

Ps. Win98SE, IE6.

310862 2005-01-06 02:46:00 Close OE, then do a file search for folders.dbx

Delete all instances of this file and then try reopening OE and see if that makes any difference.

Although the original poster still hasn't been back to the thread.
