2005-01-07 03:38:00 | Damsel in Distress!! Everytime I try to reformat my puter, I get to round about where you delete the partioned drive, not always that spot sometimes before and my puter simply shuts down and then restarts. I am running windows xp. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. :badpc:

2005-01-07 03:40:00 | Are you booting from the cd to reinstall XP?? changing the bootdisk in BIOS to CD? saving the settings then installing XP?? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2005-01-07 03:57:00 | Yes I am booting from the cd to reinstall XP. Yes I went into BIOS and changed the first boot to CD then I F10ed to save the setting the restarted, clicked any key to boot from cd. Got the setup page, told it i wanted to reinstall xp, then clicked D to delete the existing xp install and it reboots. | stormnz (4921) | |
2005-01-07 04:33:00 | What was happening for you to decide to format/install in the first place? Chances are the behaviour beforehand will shed some light on what is happening at the moment. Aside from that,You could run killdisc bootable cd to wipe the exsisting formatting from the drive, and then have another crack at loading XP. If that doesnt work then your most probally looking at an item of hardware that is/has failed......

2005-01-07 04:42:00 | My computer was rebooting itself every now and again. Plus I couldn't get my Norton ANtivirus to run the live update. I would run the live update and it would say everything is updated but then you would check the status of it and it would say it hasn't been updated since Nov 04. Plus I just have spyware and crap that i can't get rid of so decided it was best to start afresh but I can't :-( | stormnz (4921) | |
2005-01-07 04:54:00 | sounds like you may have a hardware problem if its random rebooting even while useing a boot disk. | tweak'e (69) | |
2005-01-07 04:56:00 | If there is only one partition just format, in NTFS or FAT, then install XP, dont try and delete the partition first. That maybe confusing it, as it maybe trying to delete the partition and install at the same time. If there were 2 partitions, then u could delete the partition and it SHOULD work.

2005-01-07 05:17:00 | You dont need Killdisk - Thats overkill FDisk should suffice Have you tried formatting it via other means than during installation? Cables checked are plugged in fine?
