2005-01-07 08:13:00 | I build enrty level PC's for about $800 and even they have at least 512mb ram and 80gb hdd's . Xp needs at least 512mb ram to perform reasonable and hdd drive's fill up very fast these days and up grade on OEM's like HP are often not possible (no agp slot). I'm sure you can find a better deal than that, at least buy one with generic parts.

2005-01-07 08:26:00 | actually a fair number of hps have agp slots these days, well the "high performance ones do" and if your going to be playing games of course you dont buy a HP, its too expensive. as for ram, 64 is the bare minimum, but that would be suicide, but 256 is manageable and ok if you are not a gamer

2005-01-07 08:34:00 | How long will 256 be ok for, there is a big difference in performance between 256 and 512mb with XP and not a big diff in price and remember with onboard video some of that will be needed for video......and I don't know but I'm pretty sure this one will not have an agp slot.

2005-01-07 09:05:00 | but basicly if you buy a branded pc all you are paying for is the brand, back in the day when we brought the hp Pentium 166 i think we paid $2500 for it, now its worth like 20 bucks :p ... even at $20, you'd have trouble selling it!

2005-01-07 23:12:00 | 256 will be fine for surfing and emails A Pentium 2 would be fine for surfing and emails, but it won't run XP or the latest software
