| 311705 | 2005-01-07 09:58:00 | :help: Each time I use OE, I get this msg after I logoff. "To free up disk space, OE can compact messages. This may take up to a few minutes - then there are only 2 response boxes - 'ok' and 'cancel'" Up to now I have only clicked on 'cancel' as I do not know what compacting my messages will do. Could someone please help me to understand this msg, and what will happen if the msgs are compacted. Thank you | macavity77 (6813) | ||
| 311706 | 2005-01-07 10:01:00 | hey there and welcome to press f1 :) its just asking to make your messages smaller to save space, i think (as i dont use OE) that pressing ok will be ok and that your messages will be ok. |

| 311707 | 2005-01-07 10:14:00 | "Compacting" in OE is a bit of a misnomer. When you delete a message in OE, it isn't actually deleted - it is merely hidden in the deep dank recesses of the .dbx file. When you "Compact" folders it dumps out these semi-archived (but unretrievable without third party apps) messages from the .dbx files. |

I compact mine and no probs,so go ahead and take the risk. |
