2005-01-06 08:49:00 | hello there I have a HP laptop 1 yr old. I havent tried using any games up until today. So far have tried Age of Empires 2, Age of Empires 1 and Abes Oddesy. I Keep getting a message saying "check your video device is compatible with direct draw" or the appn tries to start up but hangs. I have used the XP trouble shooters to determine that directx and directdraw are functioning fine. It would be great if someone out there could point me in the right direction to sort this out. Could really do with a AOE fix! cheers Malone

2005-01-06 08:57:00 | Directx is really a poor indicator of your video chipset capabilites, Your hardware was most likely never designed with games in mind. The best you could do is check the manufacters website and see if they have updated chipset and/or video drivers. Any idea what video chipset you laptop uses?

2005-01-07 06:08:00 | hmmm damn good question! Have looked through the device manager and cannot find a video card as such. The computer processor is a mobile celeron CPU 2.4 Ghz. The display adaptor is a IGP 340M. Is this sounding like I need some sort of video card. Can these come as a PCMCIA card? Will check for updated drivers in the meantime. cheers Malone

2005-01-07 06:21:00 | what model is your HP laptop?, no you cannot get a pcmcia card graphics card, the ones built in the laptop are not upgradeable, i doubt you will play any games on it, some of the newer ones you can

2005-01-07 07:31:00 | well by googling your laptop i found this (h10025.www1.hp.com) your laptop spec's but it seems the wrong spec's for a laptop that is a year old, this one is the 4510 (AP),so it may also be usefull if you download everest home editionhere (www.lavalys.com) this will tell you everything about your laptop. | Prescott (11) | |
2005-01-07 07:56:00 | well Age of Empires 1 & 2 ran fine on my AMD 166mhz, 32MB RAM, 2MB PCI graphics card so i'm assuming it'll work fine on a 1 year old computer, even if it does have integrated graphics. Have you tried updating to a newer version of directx? | Edward (31) | |

I think you are looking at the pavillion workstation there not the laptop the fact that the specs says it has two spare 3.5 bay and 1x 5.25 bay sort of give it away In true HP logic they also have a laptop with the same model number » HP Pavilion ze4510AP Notebook PC » HP Pavilion ze4510EA Notebook PC » HP Pavilion ze4510OM Notebook PC It has an ati mobility video chipset Upgrade your drivers for your video from the hp site h10025.www1.hp.com |
