311094 2005-01-06 02:35:00 Had this problem for a few months now, Running WIN ME IE6. When i used to click start, then shutdown, the screen would dull, then the box with restart shutdown ect would appear, id click shutdown or what ever and the computer would do what it should. Now when I click start, shutdown, the screen dulls and the shutdown option box appears, but if I click shutdown, restart or whatever the screen flicks bright again and the computer dosen't shutdown, restart, or hibernate. The only way I can get it to shutdown is to, alt ctrl del, then end task on explorer, the screen goes black for a second my desk top refreshes, then i can click start shutdown and the computer will shutdown as normal. I have been right through the shutdown trouble shooter, and the more comprehensive Microsoft one, but still no joy. I do not have a virus. Any ideas....Many thanks G-Boy (6793)

311096 2005-01-06 02:56:00 I used to use ME. I ended up getting so many "explorer" faults I switched to a different internet browser. Only used IE for updates. 99% of my probs dissapeared. Who the hell knows if that was really it, not me. KiwiLinc (6595)

Thanks johnboy pretty much done all that, with no success, The only trouble shooter i had no joy with is the bootlog, it says the "end terminate" lines are at the end of the log, my log only has 3 end termanates and they are not at the end of the log, and there is no "EndTerminate=KERNEL" in any of the log. Just seems strange how ending task on explorer enables a correct shutdown. But thanks for your suggestion :)
