312189 2005-01-08 20:01:00 Ive a daughter who would stay on the Net till the early hours, I like her to still usae the PC, but have ADSL shutdown at a prearranged time.

Ive arranged ADSL to Connect whenever the PC is switched ON, Id like to Switch it Off just as easily.

Ive tried disconnecting the Telecom wall plug, but shes cottoned on to that, so Im after something a little smarter.

Any ideas ?

312190 2005-01-08 20:56:00 I wopuld have thought your modem or router would have such a facility. It might help if you tell us make and model, as well as what (Windows) version you have.

Meanwhile the following free software application might be the answer:

[edit] sorry, it appears they lied - it's not free after all. but I bet a bit of Interent searching will find something for you for free.

312192 2005-01-08 23:38:00 Thanks for the replies, we have Win XP, 5 PCs in the HH, the router is on a shared supply with this, the main PC .

Ive looked around with Google, ZDNet, Kazza & Shareaza, cant find anything free to do what I want .

What I have been doing is swapping the line plug in the Back of the PC to the extension socket nextdoor, but is not easy to get to & visibility is limited, thus the request for Software to never allow the ADSL connection on after, say 10:30 at night .

Thanks . . . . . . . . . . . John .

312193 2005-01-08 23:44:00 Smart move, unsupervised high speed internet access late at night is a recipe for disaster . Natural curiosity will pretty much guarantee that what can go wrong, will .

I assume she is operating on a shared network connection, so if you can't find access to remote timing via your router or modem, provided you are using a line filter at the shared router/modem and you have access to another telecom outlet directly connected to the point of entry (i . e . with no adsl filters inbetween) a simple timer switch that drops an adsl filter or even a simple capacitor across the line feeding your adsl router/modem will kill the HF adsl signal and take her off-line .

It will work just as well if it is the only computer you have, but you will need another Telecom socket elsewhere in the house . It should not be too hard to set up, so if you have no success with any other suggestions, email me at the address shown in my profile and I'll trial a system here then send you the details .

Cheers
