| 311908 | 2005-01-08 01:22:00 | Story goes like this: Me buys a computer with integrated trident '3d' (morelike 2d) sticks a Geforce 2 MX PCI in it works fine few months later upgrades it more breaks old motheboard (DFI Micro ATX) in process, doesnt matter, I am upgrading that year later decides to get old computer running again. (needs new mobo) me buys new mobo (ASUS CUSI-M with Integrated SiS 530 Graphics) me re-assembles with old cpu, etc - runs ok but onboard video has crap performance - so i look in bios to see if i can change the vram/overclock it or something only 2 options i can see that might change performance: 1) vga shared memory; can set from 2mb to 64mb 2) Video memory cache mode; can set to USWC or UC (bios says set to USWC only if your display adaptor supports it) now the default for the onboard video was USWC, So i left it at that then i installed the Geforce 2 MX again - this worked fine for about a week - then suddenly died with pink lines across the screen, flickering, shadowing, extreme 'artefacts' as it were on the desktop, and even the text was corrupted at the POST. took it out, put system back to onboard vga and no problems. I want to buy a new decent PCI card for that computer, but I don't want to kill it, so what I want to know - is it possible that the "USWC" option killed my GF2? |
