312434 2005-01-11 09:41:00 Doesn't affect me because I use Firefox, but even if I had wanted to try out Secunia's test in IE, it wouldn't have worked - I don't have Windows installed in the default location of C:\WINDOWS.

None of my other computers run Windows XP in any case, so I'm not fussed about this.

312435 2005-01-11 11:07:00 Yep, it's a big mistake of MS to get so obsessed with 'integration', jamming Windows, IE, help, and more together. It is a recipe for exploits and this is proven every few weeks by the security flaws discovered again and again.

I am not a fanatical anti-MS person, but the above statement is a truism. It's one of the strengths of linux, which although I would never use linux for my OS, I cannot fail to recognise.

312436 2005-01-11 19:14:00 Well I see Firefox, Mozilla, and Thunderbird have vulnerabilities now as well .

So, they're not in the clear either .

It looks like there are 3 new fixes for XP/Server 2003/2K .

And possibly 98/ME have just come out .

Altho the 3 of them are for XP SP1 and others .

Only 1 is for SP2 .

The Majority of the Mozilla foundation's product vunerability's are in the older versions .

Most of these are rectified buy upgrading the app .

As opposed to the Many Micro$oft issues which are not fixed in this way .

Also the Mozilla retification period is shorter due to, among other things, their ability to get assistance from the whole open Source movement .

Mozilla has no issue with the mozerella thing but they wouldnt want it to become "Swiss Mozerella"

312438 2005-01-12 01:11:00 Guys, I just got asked by Automatic Updates to install this (www.microsoft.com) critical update. Think it's it?

*Installs to see*

The spyware checking tool is in there too:

This tool checks your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps remove any variants found. You should also use an antivirus product to remove other malicious software that may be present. This tool helps maintain your computer, and its appearance does not indicate that your machine is infected with malicious software. After you run this item, you may have to restart your computer.

How interesting...

312439 2005-01-12 01:13:00 Yep, sure enough it is now fixed. I've gotta say, that was one of MS's faster fix times. george12 (7)
312440 2005-01-12 01:42:00 Not when you consider that the flaw has been in the public since October 2004. agent (30)
312441 2005-01-12 02:40:00 Not when you consider that the flaw has been in the public since October 2004 .

That is the real issue .

Not that there was another Vunrability .

But that a highly criticall one took 3 + months in public to fix .

We dont know how long Micro$oft had knoweledege of this issue in private, and they will never tell us .

Oh...

God, that is bad. I take that comment back!

And of course, how long the hackers have know about it, and been using it to exploit computers . . . . . .
