Shut it down, disconnect power, user a jumper from the jumper set, and short the BIOS labeled pins for a moment this will clear the comos .

Re Boot Check in bios for pxe boot, if it is there, disable it . Known to cause all sorts of havoc on cd boot installs on these units .

Fdisk the drive blank . Then put 1 primary partition 31 . 5gb (or 39 . 375% roughly) format Fat 32 . with your 98 boot bisk .

C/D Reboot and let xp do its thing, do your self a favour and install on fat 32 file formatt, NOT ntfs . which is the default .

Why:

Because depending on which version of xp you have there can be 32 gig limit issues . Fat 32 is simply linux and other O/S compatible . NTFS definately IS NOT .

311881 2005-01-08 20:54:00 See if u can boot into Safe mode, and go to control panel/system/hardware/device manager and display adapters.

This maybe related to the videocard drivers?? If anything is under display adapters delete it then reboot. See what happens. Do you know what the videocard is in that system?

Is a G1, its an S3, probably Rage, Unless its a very late one .

Which may have changed, or someones put in an after market display card, which requires bios setting and they dont like it .

What BIOS version does it have, probably A02 .

The display details are on top of the chip, probably beside the cpu at the board output side .

311883 2005-01-08 21:21:00 From DSE the disk is most likely a Western Digital. Check the WD requirements for jumper setting. If it's the only drive on an IDE channel, the drive probably has to be set as Single or Cable Select rather than Master. This is a WD thing. PaulD (232)

Aye, cable select, I forgot DSE = probably WD.
