312369 2005-01-09 07:07:00 I was going to put this in georges thread but decided against it ,

I am going to buy a Gigabyte 9600xt 128meg gfx card ( core = 600m , mem = 500m ( could be other way round )) , and am wondering how much i can OC it by and ifs its worth it. My system cooling is good and it comes with a fan so there will be no probs there

312370 2005-01-09 07:16:00 well you could use ATItool, but after georges post i wouldnt use that, but ATItool finds the max oc it can handle and puts it at that speed

by having a quick look on google some one got 575 MHz (GPU) and 685 MHz (DDR)

gigabyte has their own overclocking utility, V-Tuner

312371 2005-01-09 09:52:00 Too many variables when it comes to overclocking... you could get a dud card, or the exact opposite and have a real cracker of an overclocker on your hands!

I think 10% would be a realistic target to aim for.

312372 2005-01-09 10:13:00 Use AtiTool, it's a good program I use it and highly recommend it. You'll probably have to use it anyway because the 9600xts have overclock locks on them I think so you need AtiTool to 'unlock' it.

Look up some guides around the net on how to overclock with it but basically: Start with 'find max core' if it has found a max core, then make sure it can run at those speeds with no artifacts for about 2hrs. Then underclock the max overclock for the core about 20mhz~ and try the 'find max memory'. Again make sure no artifacts for 2hrs once it has found a new setting.

Then perhaps make a new profile with your best core clock and best mem clock together and run 'scan for artifacts' test for 2hrs~. If it's all good then keep the profile and use it for your games.

i would rather use the program supplied by the maker, im sure this would unlock the overclock abiliteis

312374 2005-01-10 03:37:00 Don't bother, I've tried over-clocking my Gigabyte 9600XT, there's no VISIBLE increase in performance, no matter what software you use. This particlar card was not meant for over-clocking and if you are going to do it, you'll get good use out of it for a few months (2 max) and then start seeing graphics anomalies. I had mine over-clocked for a month but in the end had to reset to the default speeds as the resultant heat was creating havoc with the system causing restart after restart.

Why are you so hell bent on this card? You have posted numerous threads asking for advice regarding it. Numerous F1'ers including myself have told you that there are better options out there for a slightly higher price. Is the $$ you have saved for this card burning a hole in you pocket cos if it is give it to someone you trust to keep until you heed the GOOD ADVICE you have been given or sucumb to you own IMPATIENCE or IGNORANCE (whichever you prefer)

I don't not mean to be rude but you seem to be asking the same questions in difference ways and you are been given the same answers over and over again.

For the sake of brevity

GIVE UP THIS CHASE FOR YOUR 9600XT.... THERE ARE BETTER CARDS OUT THERE.

cheers

312375 2005-01-10 05:48:00 go for a 9800 pro perhaps? Prescott (11)
312376 2005-01-10 09:04:00 im sorry noone (22)
312377 2005-01-10 09:11:00 1 . Why get a new card thats old to start with (9600), to replace a old card to begin with?

2 . It does not comput (make sense, it does not oh young jedi!) :illogical

3 . Todays tec . for todays games, that makes sense now young jedi .

4 . Get a 9800pro at the least,last longer then a 9600 . (6600gt better)

5 . Both Ati/Nvidia have moved on to new tec . will you?

6 . Save your money until you can afford to get somthing better, and dont ask later why such and such game wont work/play good later on when better games come out and need more spec's . :badpc:

7 . Because it will happen,thats life! :D

312378 2005-01-10 09:15:00 ATI's **brandnew** X600 is a 9600xt pci card.

Their midrange agp card is still the 9600 family......
