312146 2005-01-08 16:18:00 Hey,
OK I have a Compaq 5002US. I was trying to install more ram into it. I know it is PC100 and is capable of 700mb and something so when I tried to install more ram (I install two stick of 128mb) my computer boot up to the compaq screen and on the left hand coner of the screen it states that it reads the 64mb I already have in there but under that it says memory error and under that it look something like this 164mb. The it gives me two option F1 or F10. So I took out the ram and my computer works fine. Please any help would be greatly appcriated.

312148 2005-01-09 02:36:00 The memory error could be just that it sees more memory than it "knows" it has.

The numbers don't seem to be right ... you might have mistyped the 164?

Anyway, the F1 option just continues with the boot operation. I'd use F10, which will get the BIOS setup. It will tell you how much memory it sees. If that's right, just "exit with save", and it will be all OK in future. The system will have been officially told that there is more memory.

312149 2005-01-09 03:08:00 I tried to install only the one stick of 128mb ram. My computer turns on but nothing is showing up on the screen. Everything is working ok it's just that problem.

And I didn't mistype it really say 164.

THANKS

312150 2005-01-09 22:12:00 anyone have an idea SnakeLi (6825)
312151 2005-01-09 22:53:00 Have you got another PC you could try the RAM in? It may be faulty.

Are you sure the new stick is compatible with your computer? Some brand name PCs are a bit fussy about what they will take, apparently.

312152 2005-01-09 23:01:00 The chip is pc100 and my mobo is pc100. Someone told me it might be the chips on the ram. Do anyone know if it is true. SnakeLi (6825)

312155 2005-01-10 00:17:00 CMOS:
rip open your case, find the cmos battery (its on the motherboard), (its a circle one i think), take that out for about 15min and then put it back in and then try to boot the pc with the ram in.

Memtest
here (www.memtest86.com) is the homepage and you can download it there, go for the .iso file and burn it to a cd (you will need to make an image using nero) its probably easier :)

also, is the ram correctly inserted all the way in and the right way in?
what speed is the other stick of ram? and are they the same brand?
