311936 2005-01-08 03:15:00 Hi
I have recently caught a virus on my other computer and had to format it with killdisk. My problem is that i cant re-install windows xp. I have made sure i set my BIOS to boot from the cd rom, but it doesnt read it and just freezes on "failed to load operating system" If anyone can help me i would really appreciated it. Thanks

311937 2005-01-08 03:48:00 Does it get to the XP install screen at all??

Or does this failed to load os error, come up after XP has been installed?

311938 2005-01-08 03:51:00 It doenst load the installation at all, it sounds like its reading the cd but just continues and says failed to load operating system. numnut18 (6818)
311939 2005-01-08 03:52:00 Are you hitting "any key" to boot from CD? PcNut (6639)
311940 2005-01-08 03:53:00 the "press any key to boot from cd" doesnt even show up either. numnut18 (6818)
311941 2005-01-08 03:58:00 Are you sure you you saved the BIOS settings & are you sure you're XP disc is bootable? PcNut (6639)
311942 2005-01-08 03:59:00 Either:
the BIOS boot order is incorrect, or
the cd-rom drive does not support booting, or
the cd-rom drive IDE cable is disconnected, or
the cd-rom is not bootable .

No matter what happens, there is always someone who knew it would

311943 2005-01-08 04:00:00 Yes, i have went over my BIOS at least ten times and i have installed a formatted hard drive with the xp cd before, so i know its bootable. numnut18 (6818)
311944 2005-01-08 04:01:00 I would check the cable on the cdrom, and open the case . And make sure the power to it is right in, and the IDE cable is in properly . Or not damaged .

Is the CD connected to an IDE connection by itself? And is it on the secondary ide connection, and set as master??

Also, make sure the BIOS detects the CD ROM . .

Does the BIOS detect the cd rom?? On whatever IDE connection, it's on .

It should say press a key, if it does, if u set the cd as the bootdisk, and save the settings . Then boot from the CD . Soon after the system boots .

311945 2005-01-08 04:04:00 well my computer has dual cd-roms and i have tried to boot with both of the cd -roms. My BIOS correctly detects my cd-roms because i have tried a bootdisk. The order of the boot sequence starts with the cd drive. One of my cd drives is a secondary master and the other is a secondary slave. numnut18 (6818)
