313019 2005-01-11 09:13:00 Hi guys,

Getting the above error in Outlook 2003 when trying to send email. Incoming email is no problem. ADSL connection and general access to the net is working fine.

Only recent change to the system was a standard Norton upgrade and eldest son plugging new Playstation2 into the system.

Any ideas?

313020 2005-01-11 09:18:00 the mail server at the ISP thinks you are not connected throught there network.

check with your ISP help desk.

313021 2005-01-11 09:22:00 What ISP are you with, and what ISP are you trying to send your mail through?

This is the error you will get if you try to use the outgoing mail server of an ISP that you have not authenticated with, usually by being on their network.

Check the account settings in Outlook and see what SMTP server it is trying to use. This should be something like smtp.your-ISP.co.nz. If not, try changing it to that.

313022 2005-01-11 09:27:00 Thanks, I was afraid you might say that ...

*gets sleeping bag and mug of milo and settles in for the usual eternity on hold with the ISP* :D

Cheers

Think I recall mine saying "mail.internet.co.nz". Will doublecheck. Thx

313024 2005-01-11 09:33:00 Changed it to smtp.internet.co.nz but still get the same error message.

Will phone ISP in the morning and make it SEP : )

313025 2005-01-11 09:37:00 If your ISP is ICONZ then mail.iconz.co.nz should be used as both your incoming and outgoing mail servers.

If you still have a problem even with those set, then you definitely need to be on the phone to them. ;)

It should be noted that ICONZ is one and the same as internet.co.nz. If you had your server set to mail.internet.co.nz this may have been the problem, but it shouldn't have to be mail.iconz.co.nz.
