2005-01-10 08:48:00 | My sons comp. started showing :invalid files, win 2000 files have been changed to an unrecognised format ,(something like this) please insert W2000 disc and reload.. We did this but now the comp will only display 16 colours not 16 bit. When I click on the options in DISPLAY THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS. | gradebdan (2186) | |

2005-01-11 02:10:00 | There is no graphics card installed. The comp. has Intel pen 111, 800Hz,128 MB. Also we can not reinstall the modem (to get on the internet) because when we try to read the modem installation disc it says "Warning: The "title" bitmap has 8 bits/pixel, it must be changed to 4BPP (16 colours). ....

2005-01-11 02:21:00 | Have you got a CD which "belongs" to the motherboard? That will have a driver for the video controller on the MB. That will give you back the colour choices. That will let you install your modem ... | Graham L (2) | |
2005-01-11 02:23:00 | All computers have to have some form of Video chip, to drive the monitor . If you don't have a card, then it will be "Onboard" chips . These chips then have to be driven by the software . . hence "drivers" . At the moment your driver is the default Windows one, as on installing, windows itself did not have a driver for that video chipset . If this is a desktop, you will have let us know what motherboard it is, if a laptop, the brand and model number . Usually, you can find out all info required about the computer, from the program mentioned above . Run it and post back the info .

2005-01-13 03:41:00 | I have been to the Gigabyte site. There are 4 drivers listed for the GA-6VEM m/b.. So far I have d/l to my desktop theVGA driver and the chipset driver,, is this all I need? The audio driver listed is 19mb so I left that for now. If I had been able to access the internet on the "faulty" comp. the gigabyte site could have read the comp. and sent the necessary drivers. | gradebdan (2186) | |
2005-01-13 09:59:00 | Grandeban, "The audio driver listed is 19mb so I left that for now" Is that 19MB or 19mb? if it is 19mb it isn't so big and you could probably download it. 19MB sounds big for a driver (but don't quote me). "mb" stands for mega bits which is a lot less than "MB" which stands for MEGA BYTES. check it and if it is mb download it and load it on your faulty machine.
