312578 2005-01-09 21:25:00 Morning all.

I would appreciate an explanation of the following message. It comes up on the kid's Compaq Desktop PC which is about 7 years old when they try to run Sims2.

I'm assuming I need a newer graphics card, but then again maybe not; maybe it's something I can download and install??

Anyway, the message is:

"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adaptor in this system. Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adaptor....etc"

If I need to go to Able Business Machines in Wgton for any upgrades, I would appreciate a few impartial views here before they "see me coming"! :badpc:

Many thanks
Tim

312581 2005-01-09 22:04:00 I don't know the Sim2's minimum requirements off hand, but it looks like you need a graphic card which can support DirectX 9c - this is hardware support, and not software. As the machine is 7 years old, you might be pushing the boundries on the other required specifications for the game. Your motherboard will not be able to support the newer graphic cards if it is this age (unless you go for a PCI graphic card??). So your upgrade may be a bit more than just a graphic card ...

[edit] Hmm ... I'm a bit slow to post here. I see the others have already answered and godfather has posted a link to the minimum requirements :)

Bugger - hadn't thought about the motherboard....this goes from bad to worse!!

I've e-mailed Able and will see what they come back with.

Cheers
