312483 2005-01-09 20:25:00 I know it's not relevant to the issue of this thread, but I notice a slight high-pitched humming on our phone line. The thing is, it's only been there since we got ADSL, and it goes away when the router is switched off.

Other people in the house don't notice it though, just like they don't notice the high-pitched humming of a TV switched on, or a faulty monitor, or anything else (such as a light dimmer or a power adapter).

312485 2005-01-29 22:52:00 Same problem for months. Telecom in and out checking / claiming problem(s) found - egs new phone supplied, new filters installed, "poor connector in (some box) near house", "poor connector in exchange" --> swapped --> temporary improvement -->recurs, worsening all the time. My telephone is virtually inaudible at times (I do have a favourite places subscription - not sure if that matters).

Anybody any ideas? I figured swapping supplier would unlikely work becaause telecom do all the copper for them anyway.

312486 2005-01-30 01:34:00 Humming might be caused by your house wiring. If the telephone wires are run too close to mains wiring, or through/near fluorescent fittings you can get quite good coupling. :(

ADSL filters won't have any effect on hum. They stop high frequencies getting to the phone.

Is the problem worse when it rains? There might be a leaky cable somehwre in the run. Though I imagine that would pretty well destroy the ADSL signal.

It would be cause IIRC you are quite young (15, 16, 17?) , we tend to hear high-pitched sounds better than older people :).
