313576 2005-01-13 07:23:00 Hello all, We are running two XP Home computers on a network. Our Outlook Experss name is, for example "Poppa John @ xtra etc" Whichever computer is booted first will take any/all incoming E-mails. We would prefer this not to happen & to have Poppa's mail go to his computer & Maryann's mail go to here computer. If that is not possible, how about a simple way of transferring them to the "Other" computer over our network? Any ideas? PJ Poppa John (284)
313577 2005-01-13 07:31:00 I am assuming here you have two email addresses.
You must have both email accounts setup on both computers, just go to Tools/Accounts in OE on each computer and delete the account that that you don't want to get mail from on that particular computer.

safari. No it is the same xtra acc shared over our network. I suspect I am asking for the impossible. PJ

Just to clarify things here.
You have one or two accounts with your ISP?
You have one account with your ISP and one alias?

If you have two separate accounts then configure your Email client separately on each computer so that Maryann only downloads from her account and you only download from your account.

You can set up with the ISP separate Email rather than an alias.

313580 2005-01-13 07:47:00 How then do you know who the email is for if they all have the same email address.
Or do you have an alias address with Xtra in which case both addresses are accessed with the same password so you get both when you download mail.

What you need is a completely separate email address which has its own account name and password. You could then keep your own emails on the individual computers.
If you were with any other ISP other than Xtra you would get several of these with your normal plan but there is a cost with Xtra I think.

Elephant.... Only the one xtra acc. "Poppa John@ ". I believe we DO have an alias or two but cannot remember them.
Two accounts on broadband?? Out of our money range.
Would Xtra give us two names "Poppa John @" AND "Maryann @ " for the same monthly payment? PJ

OK. That clarifys my query. Check your ISP and see if you can get two SEPARATE Email addresses for a reasonable price. I don't use Xtra as an ISP anymore.

Or set Maryann up with a Hotmail address. Or get some free Webspace and have her or your Email go there. All you have to do is advise the whole of you address book of the change.

313583 2005-01-13 07:57:00 Any decent ISP (I think this includes Xtra, so add "and some others ;)") will give you a few free aliases.

Just talk to them and get something else @xtra.co.nz

313584 2005-01-13 07:58:00 Safari & Elephant. I think between you , you have a grasp of the problem. Even if the acc was "Poppa @ " & we had individual 'Alias" names, I THINK that whichever computerwas booted first & OE opened, then THAT computer would collect ALL the E-mails. Is that correct? Two seperate Xtra accounts , paid, is out of the question. PJ Poppa John (284)
313585 2005-01-13 07:59:00 You ask for the impossible . Your Xtra account has only one pop account .
Unless you wish to purchase another pop account with another distinctive email account, you whistle Dixie .

The only - relatively cheap and easy - option is to transfer to Outlook . The version that comes with MS Office . Import the address book and the emails into Outlook from Outlook Express .
Share the folder containing the relevant pab and pst files .
On the second machine delete the local pst and pab files, start Outlook and map to the shared folder .
Set up message rules to separate incoming emails .

The only proviso is that the machine with the shared folder has to be on for the second machine to access the Outlook files .

Logic
Outlook Express does not support locating the message store and address book on a share, thought you may wish to try a mapped drive .

Others may suggest changing email browsers or providers - the results will be unsatisfying .
