313495 2005-01-13 02:32:00 Hi everyone. I need a bit of help with installing Windows ME. I've managed to get a ME CD (A friend's MSDN one) and boot the machine with it. It enters the Setup, only to say "Windows ME needs at least a 150mhz processor", except I have one! It's a 166mhz AMD K-5, so it should be fine. Except for some reason it won't accept it. Linux detected it as a 117mhz, but the Windows 95 install found it to be 166mhz fine. So what can I do? Like I say, it's and AMD K-5 166mhz, 32mb RAM, 40gb H/D and 2MB Graphics card. Is there a way I can fool it into seeing it at it's full potential, or can I overclock it temporarily to install it/keep it running? The BOIS is

ROM PCI/ISA BIOS (2A59IM2Z)
CMOS SETUP UTILITY
AWARD SOFTWARE, INC.

Yes, I realise it's a little on the slow side But all it'll do is Internet & Multiplayer games like Monopoly, Game of Life & Age of empires.

Any help most appreciated :help:

Thanks, Edward

313499 2005-01-13 03:01:00 That article wasn't much help :(

1. I'm having processor trouble, not RAM

2. My case is it's not installing in adequate hardware, rather than installing on sub-requirement hardware

313500 2005-01-13 03:03:00 From somewhere else
" When the OS installs, it actually verifies that your system meets the mininum requirements, you must have at least 150 MhZ and 32 MB of RAM before you even think about installing this. I was on the borderline so the install was cancelled. If you must install this on an older the system, there is a way around this. From DOS, type "D:\setup /nm" and it will load right up."
AMD probably were fudging their MHz ratings based on equivalence even then.

313501 2005-01-13 03:04:00 With those specs 95 will run much much better than ME Rob99 (151)
313502 2005-01-13 03:09:00 I realise that, but Windows ME is the only CD I can get my hands on that actually works, the 95 one is buggered Edward (31)
313503 2005-01-13 03:53:00 Is there only one version of Windows 95? I have an "original" version (if there is such a thing) that you could "borrow" if you want... providing you already have a licence for using yours. FoxyMX (5)
313504 2005-01-13 04:03:00 Aha, DOS wins again. :D D:\setup /? should give all the options. I'd forgotten about the option to not do some of the tests. Graham L (2)
