313314 2005-01-12 07:35:00 How do I setup 2 home computers to connect to the internet at the same time?
:stare:

1. Do I do this pair to pair and how?
2. Or do I need a hub?

I have ClearNet 56K dialup however i do a Nokia M11 ADSL modem lying around - I'm assuming I need to attain ADSL connection instead of dial up if I want to use the M11?
Your advise will be treasured, thanx guys. ;)

313315 2005-01-12 07:47:00 Yup you would need Jetstream or similar to use that ADSL modem.

For dialup, for the 56k modem, u need an ethernet cable, long enough for it to connect to the other PC. And a Crossover, or a hub....to connect the 2 PC's.

And also 98 second edition or higher on either to use ICS, so both get on the net.

What version of Windows is on both?? If they use Windows?

313317 2005-01-12 08:02:00 I can't remember if the M11 had multiple ethernet ports or not (the M1122 does) but if it does, you can still use it as a hub, regardless of if the DSL is operating.

Edit: Googled the manual, doesn't look like it does.

Don't you mean a gateway Ninj rather than a hub? If it would do that it would certainly save mucking around with 2 cards in the one box and MS ICS, but looks like a hub/switch would be needed to achieve it (can be got cheep though).

Nah I meant hub. The Nokia M1122 (successor to the M11) have a 4 port hub which will work fine, DSL or no DSL. That was what I was aiming for, however unfortunately the M11 doesn't.

In which case I'd go WiFi if I was doing it.

313320 2005-01-12 19:08:00 both machines will also need network cards -- these can be purchased cheaply from Dick Smith for $15 if you don't have one.
The easiest way to do it is to get a *crossover* network cable long enough between the two machines, and plug this into either machine. If you have winXP on both machines, setup for network/internet sharing, should be quick as a whistle -- just run the network setup wizard.
