A friend told me it was little more than the ability to network more than a couple of pc's

313276 2005-01-12 09:16:00 I bought the academic edition of XP Professional, so I got it cheaper than the normal price of XP Home, I think.

Taking a look at the Microsoft comparison page, I don't think I would ever choose XP Home. But one of the main reasons I went for Pro was that you could install IIS on it (though you can "hack" Home edition to do that, it just means you won't be able to install SP1 after doing so - something like that).
