313653 2005-01-19 00:54:00 Thanks for all the continued feedback guys (Prescott, GF, frupup, Metla) - that was quick!!

A: The BIOS flasing option, had been in my opinion out, up till now, due to the recovery cds not working etc... As you have all stated. From what i have found in the last few days research, i think godfather is right, in the fact its mobo may have variations too, as i couldn't find much reference to it with the end no's at all (model no), if that means anything?

B: The problem is - if its just not liking the specific card (brand/model etc...). I can't find anybody/anywhere who will tell me which card/s are compatible.
HP tell me they have not heard of cards being incompatible with their systems, but looked at what was in the next models up and they used the "Nvidia GeForce4 MX440" (i was trying a MX420) which they insisted would work. The shops i rang also said they hadn't come across them not accepting certain cards, so overall, not very helpful...

It would be great to know what card might work, before going along the whole mobo replacement direction...

C: As GF said - "if you replace the motherboard with a non-HP of any type, remember that the recovery CD's will not work. You will need a new Operating System." -

So that was sounding like another complication i was counting on...

Metla:
I like the sound of your quote/s!! I was actually saying to my partner last night if we weren't so far away, i wouldn't have hesitated to recommend you to him for his repairs.
But even with your highest quote he could just about get it sent over there and repaired for less than local, lol.
So going on the theory that the mobo needs replacing and that you had to use a non-Hp (as GF suggested), could you still use his recovery cds to load the o.s back onto it? We may indeed look into that option anyway, i will check with him over the next few days what he wants to do and may email you privately etc...

Thanks to you all for all the feedback, its great - especially with all the variables you need to take into consideration with these HP, Compaqs (OEMs) etc... its a great help.

D: What size case is classed as non-standard? It looks about the normal size to me?

Cheers
