313290 2005-01-13 01:15:00 Well, as I've already said, if u do a clean install anyway, the drivers will be ON the 2k CD. 2k SHOULD detect most of whats in the system.

So, if u have 2k on the hdd now, how exactly did u do that?? (If u didnt reformat / do a clean install)?

313291 2005-01-13 02:27:00 Have you got a Knoppix or similar "live CD" Linux? That might be able to access the files on that partition. It's a type 12 (hex) partition, but I assume its filesystem will be FAT style, which Linux is good at. :)

I assume it's the drivers for the motherboard components you need. HP/Compaq probably provide do provide them. What you have in the recovery partition might not be in a usable form for installation outside of the recovery procedure. Especially when you try to do it in a different OS.

313292 2005-01-13 03:06:00 It might be a dumb idea but why don't you grab Driver Genius, run that and see if any drivers it saves match the ones on the hidden partition? FoxyMX (5)
313293 2005-01-13 03:18:00 There are a heap more tweaks to give speed other than just cleaning out rubbish.

But FoxyMX has given you a good idea, I realise it dosent answer your question completly tho.

313294 2005-01-13 09:06:00 Driver Genius?

Sounds like a nifty program....

*googles*

I found a viewer for the partitions, paragon part manager 6...

Also, have you guys seen the hidden partitions? Its pretty much like a windows cd.
So I was looking for a winnt.sif file to find the drivers but no success.

Cos it does have an i386 file among others....

Anyways if this Driver Genius does what I think it does, then that should solve my problems... I'm gonna go format my pc anyway now... again...

313295 2005-01-13 10:16:00 OK, first of all, don't tell me to do something else as this is already what I'm doing.

I have cleansed the machine with adaware, and cleansing of the registry, installing firefox, however the machine still dilly dallys around. pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

XP is a sh*t operating system and I am cleansing the machine of this virus. 2000 will run faster than XP because it does not have all the bloat and 'features' that xp comes with. Going to Windows 2000 is an Upgrade.

There is no HP software running that I can see. Through sniffing through the run key, and the three fingered salute.

Why is it that people always offer alternatives rather than answering the question.pressf1.pcworld.co.nz pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

Please, I simply want to know if anyone knows where the drivers are kept on the hidden partition, I think I have found them but don't know if the *.sys files are enuff... pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

SYS SPECS:
1.3GHz Duron
128MB RAM
40GB Hard Drive

Why not give them a Linux box? Maybe connect to the Internet via Telstra?
Can't you convince the person to change to a non monopoly which you hate?

Welcome to the real world.

313296 2005-01-13 12:21:00 The hidden area contains compressed files for running restore only.

For drivers go to welcome.hp.com

and check if the pc has windows 2000 support. If they have drivers they are on site. Not there then they didn't make them.

The recovery will also include any apps supplied.
