313190 2005-01-12 12:01:00 OK I gave it a go with Nero Vision without doing the final burn, I looked at the preview and it was total crap, I will keep trying tho. Rob99 (151)
313191 2005-01-12 12:13:00 Going through with it anyway.

It will take over 6 hours so I will get some sleep before it finishes

The total size is about 14 GB so I will use Shrink then check the results and let you know.

313192 2005-01-12 18:35:00 Here's an idea... use DVDShrink to rip all your DVD's to vob files. Now, re-author the discs putting on however many discs you want onto 1 DVD. Burn as an image file to your PC somewhere. Mount this image and then go through the process you normally would to convert 1 DVD to a SVCD.

Easy peasy :)

313193 2005-01-12 18:57:00 I have done this (www.afterdawn.com) before from memory the result was I could put 5 vcd's onto one DVD with menu's and chapters. It was a one off project for friend but she was happy with result. The primary program I used was tmpgenc - dvdauthor (www.pegasys-inc.com) and fortunately there was a trial version. Have a look at these (www.afterdawn.com) guides as well.

I also recall it took hours and a couple of experiments before I got it right.

313194 2005-01-12 21:32:00 Buggar I dont know what happened, Nero made a 14gb VIDEO_TS folder which I used Shrink on and it seemed to complete without any worries.

Apon viewing the completed iso file in PowerDVD the menu was gone along with the first movie????

I put this down to 50/50 cant be done/I stufffed something up

sam m and Lohsing may be on to something tho.

Pal:
transcode -i matrix.mpg -V -y mpeg -F d -Z 352x288 --export_fps 25 --export_asr 2 -E 48000 -b 224 -o split

Ntsc:
transcode -i matrix.mpg -V -y mpeg -F d -Z 352x240 --export_fps 29.97 --export_asr 2 -E 48000 -b 224 -o split

mplex -f 8 -o movie_dvd.mpg split.m2v split.mpa

dvdauthor -o finalproduct movie_dvd.mpg

dvdauthor -o finalproduct -T

If transcode starts encoding with a warning that says something like:
[export_ffmpeg.so]: WARNING: Selected audio sample rate (48000 Hz) not equal to input sample rate (44100 Hz), use -J
then you'll need to add '-J resample' to your transcode line.

If the input source file is of a lower framerate than the desired framerate in the encoded output file, then it is necessary to add
'-J modfps' to your transcode line or audio/video(AV) will not be in sync (converting from PAL to NTSC for example).
Encoding to PAL: '-J modfps --export_fps 25'
Encoding to NTSC: '-J modfps --export_fps 29.97'
tcprobe -i input_file.avi

I always add -J modfps, doesnt seem to hurt but its great when converting AVI's to DVD.
Basically that converts the file into a compatible mpeg file... I cant remember the command to crop it to 700MB though..... I'll see what I can come up with, but there's the start of what you'll needa do ;)

313196 2005-01-13 01:49:00 Things you might want to look at:

DVD Region Free+CSS to remove protection and regions.

Xvid (inverted spelling for divx) for ripping it in xvid compression.

VirtualDub for splitting the AVI file, the best thing to do is not split the movie but copy the whole movie again. That way VBR sound will be saved as CBR sound so that when you split it, you won't skew any audio. Then split that copied movie.

After the split I use DVD2SVCD with Cinema Craft Encoder, but that will include a small logo at the bottom right corner for the entire movie if it's not purchased, and it's not cheap!.

I then use PowerDVD to go to the last scene of that split movie, I then copy that scene and paste it into Photoshop, where I create the Please Insert Next Disc section.

I then use VCDEasy to create the still MPEG of my Insert Next Disc Scene, chapters, etc.

From there I just burn it with whatever program I want to use, VCDEasy can also burn it.

Check out this link, it was helpful www.videohelp.com

Cheers,

Of course we are! I've done exactly what you've been trying to do for a while now, but can't say the quality has been the greatest.

Originally I tried to create a super "Friends" DVD... where one season of episodes could fit onto one DVD-R instead of being split over 3. Can't say the quality was the greatest and ended up ripping the episodes and converting to DivX.

313198 2005-01-13 02:37:00 Man, I have GOT to have a play with this!

Imagines having several movies on one DVD in decent quality.......
