313325 2005-01-12 11:22:00 I have changed my default desktop and display manager to KDE.
I'm sure it's something I've done - cause I been fidling.
Anyway, I can't login as root thru the KDM anymore. I just get a error box saying: root logins are not allowed (or something very similar).
I have searched and searched for a place where some hidden setting may be - but to no avail.

Any ideas?

btw: Running FC3; KDE; can login as root with GDM fine - but want KDM.

313326 2005-01-12 22:35:00 login as a user and run kcontrol - There's some settings in there that prevent it.

Its a good security measure ;)

313327 2005-01-13 01:45:00 I've tried looking in there but I couldn't find anything.
I ended up posting it on another site - and got a reply which worked.
KDE 3.3 disables a graphical root login by default. Editing the /etc/X11/xdm/kdmrc file and changing the AllowRootLogin entries to true fixed the problem.
But cheers for the suggestion anyway.

313328 2005-01-13 02:44:00 Another way to allow login as root using KDM is as follows.

In a teminal session, such as Konsole, become Super User (root) by typing su , and hit enter.
Then run this shell command kcmshell kdm , and hit enter.

The Login Manager will open and it has many ways of customising login, including which users are shown at the initial login screen.
