314202 2005-01-15 03:26:00 I am looking for a good download manager to, well manage my downloads!

I could look on my own but the big feature I want is the ability to dynamicaly change the download speed. Simmilar to the way windows has the 'System Idal Processes' that change to 99% when you aren't doing anything and imedatly change when you start something. I would like the same feature in a download manager, it comes on as soon as the internet connection comes on, used 100% of the unused connecton, that is when I pause to write something like this, it would download at 100% and then when I press submit would automaticaly decrese to something like 20% and as soon as the information is submitted go right back to 100%. And to pauser the download when I disconnect from the internet.

I would also like:
resume from bad stop
pause (obvously)
free!

and would like, but not require:
Fire Fox intregration
automatic disconnect
virus scann

Hope someone can help
I'm a Downloadoholic :p

314203 2005-01-15 04:43:00 hey there,
i am currently using freshdownload, it can be found here (http://www.freshdevices.com). i think it is ok and i have used it for a number of years, you can set your bandwidth it takes to manual or automatic. and its free :) it also intergrates into firefox

others include, leechget (www.leechget.net) which i havent completly used before, but its free. there is also getright (http://www.getright.com) but its not free.

firefox also has a ok download manager that is built in, im guessing you have dial up, but what os?

314207 2005-01-15 08:14:00 No,though it does have advertising,Personally I'm quite put out by its newly implemented pop-up..... Metla (12)
314208 2005-01-15 08:23:00 There's a great FireFox plugin for FlashGet also. ninja (1671)
314209 2005-01-15 08:29:00 The plug-in would be FlashGot no doubt?

My bad... I got carried away breaking that "only post every 30 seconds" rule.

www.flashgot.net

Incidentally according to the above site it supports multiple download managers - which I wasn't aware of:

# for Windows (FlashGet, Free Download Manager, GetRight, Internet Download Accelerator, LeechGet, Net Transport, ReGet and Russian only Download Master)
# for Linux / FreeBSD / other Unix-like OSes (Aria and Downloader 4 X)
# for Mac OS X (iGetter and Speed Download 2)

In that case I retract.
