Pray tell, seeing as Xtra is (in your words) a "crap ISP" how many such outages have they had in say, the last year. I await your most informed reply!Geez I missed the bit in my post that said no other ISP's have outages - in fact I don't even remember typing it. Don't put words in my mouth. Well personal attacks aside, Xtra have no customer commitment. Their helpdesks are staffed by people with limited (if any) IT knowledge and a stack of pre-written cheat sheets. Their own staff are not informed when they have problems, and they can't interact between their own departments. Their network in terms of speed and quality is atrocious when compared with any other large ISP in New Zealand. I should know, I used to be an Xtra customer back in the day. They have a significant number of outages, more than most large ISP's I am familiar with. The bigger issue is not the fact they have outages, but the fact they are extremely slow to respond to them, and often refuse to acknowledge they happened. If you could actually browse to their web-site right now, I'd guarantee their network status says "no known problems". In April last year Xtra's mail was down for 4 sequential days. 4 entire days where mail inbound to Xtra was delivered at times intermittently, but more often than not undeliverable. Xtra's NOC continually denied any problems at their end despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. As one operator put it: jedi.net.nz |

| 314134 | 2005-01-15 01:13:00 | Well I've been with Xtra for a while now and apart from their sad DNS servers and today's bs I have been very pleased with the service... A friend is considering changing to Orcon UBS which is apparently cheaper than JS but then again I've heard people on CS:S complaining that their UBS connection is slower than 56k (latency wise) - this is prob because of Telecm but I don't really care as long as my ping doesn't go that way... :P |

My point was that the plonkers @Xtra had neither the will nor the wit to change THEIR "Current Network Status" message on their homepage. For 5-6 hours it read "There are currently no known problems with the Xtra Network." Moreover the Sceduled Outages read "No outages are currently scheduled" But their Help Desk was just bewildered. | timmy5953 (6846) | ||

It seems several of Xtra's DNS servers are out, coupled with some area outages on 0873 which is causing all the biffo this morning. My ISP's DNS servers have been out all month. Wouldn't be surprised if it's 'cos Telecon's had a problem and hasn't bothered to fix it :annoyed: |

Ninja made the comment that Xtra was crap and I took exception to it . All I did was call him a "Noddy" nothing worse than what he has been dishing out on this forum . I am not alone in getting sick of reading all the tripe about Xtra/Telecom as soon as they have an outage . Ban me for all I care . |
