I dunno what's causing it, but I do know XTRA are having big troubles. People are randomly getting stuck at either 256k or 64k, and nobody knows why. The USB thing was possibly a coincidence. |

2005-01-17 04:30:00 | BJ, i hit the limit LAST month. also, the USB thing is no coincidence, as every time I try USB it runs fine. Strange, I have hit my limit twice now and not even been cut back yet. Though I have only gone over by a few hundred MB. I am on Ethernet to the router 100% of the time. My connection is a Telecom Jetstream 2MB/10GB one and have Paradise as my ISP but I cant see how the ISP is the cause as Telecom is doing the bandwidth throttling unless you are on UBS. I would say that there is a problem your modem/router and it does not like what is happening with it when the bandwidth gets cut back. I used to be on JetStart 128 and never had an issue either. Could be an issue with Xtra's proxy server but again it seems strange that it happens onlty after you have been cut back and then only when not on USB.

2005-01-17 11:42:00 | BJ, I know it's not the router, as i have tried a replacment. It must be a PC problem that can impair, but not stop, the connection between PC & Router. The problem must be either software related with XP or LAN/ethernet settings, or the onboard ethernet adapter itself. i just dont know what. cheers | Kindel (6640) | |
2005-01-18 02:02:00 | As I said, get Ethereal and run it for a while. It will tell you what packets are moving though your Ethernet connection. Then you will know what is happening. | Graham L (2) | |
2005-01-18 06:49:00 | When I was with Orcon the transmission would come in bursts, it would spend more time between files that actually downloading them. This was never rectified so I changed to Xtra & have not had the same problem since. My Jetstream Plus speed is supposed to be 2000kbps but can range down to 69kbps. There seems to be no answer to it other than a busy system. First thing in the morning it is fast, evening slow.
