314164 2005-01-15 00:54:00 Hi Folkz :-)

Bought myself a new dvd writer recently and installed it no problems. today i went to copy a cd, usually i use the nero wizard, create an image and then insert a blank cd and then burn the image, and its done. Not sure if its any co incidence associated with my dvd burner (havent burnt anything on it yet), i went to copy a cd the usual way ive done many times and i got an error " unable to start disk at once, burn failed". ive never ever had this problem before, so tried again and the same thing, same error. this time i tried to copy the cd with the dvd writer, image created fine, and burn with the dvd writer, but same error trying to burn the image. okay next thing, used the dvdrw to create image and the cdrw to burn.. and vice versa, same error! " unable to start disk at once, burn failed". next thing trie to do "copy on the fly" dvdrw to cdrw and vice versa, sameeeeeeee thing, ok, so now checked that buffer under run running on both drives , thats fine, thought id change the buffer from "automatic configuration" to "manual" and 71 megs for the buffer size . tried again, same thing!.

someone help please :-) normally i dont have any problems, but this one has me stumped.

win xp pro sp1

314165 2005-01-15 01:27:00 What if u try and burn mp3s / other?? Besides trying to copy a cd??

Also check and see if DMA is enabled on both burners.

And what IDE connection are both burners on?? Secondary?? Not on the same connection as a hdd???

And r u sure that both burners have been jumpered to a master and slave?

314166 2005-01-15 02:13:00 hi there speedy

burning an mp3 cd rom (with nero)as i type this post right now and no problems at all, dma is enabled on both cdrw and dvdrw, the cdrw and dvdrw are on the secondary controller with the cdrw as master and dvdrw as slave via an 80 pin ide cable, hmmmm.

ok.. just burnt an mp3 cd using musicmatch on the dvdrw and thats fine as well..

so... hmm!

314167 2005-01-15 02:26:00 OK. Well umm, Nero and any other program .Even if they have a disk copy option, it doesnt mean it'll always work !! Because of protection.

I spose it depends on what youre trying to copy.

If u had CD Creator / directcd 5+ or 6/7 you could copy the cd to hdd then to cd.

314168 2005-01-15 02:35:00 next set of tests

iso image on pc HDD burnt with alchohol 120% on cdrw -- fine
iso image on pc HDD burnt with alchohol 120% on dvdrw -- fine

as for protection, thats not an issue because im trying to copy/burn vcd's ive done myself :-)

ok.. ill try copying again...........

314169 2005-01-15 02:50:00 OK what version of Nero are u using?? 5.xx or 6.xx?

Maybe if it isnt 6 or later, Nero needs updating to 6 So, it knows what your burner is (if it doesnt know what it is properly now).

At least you know the burners still work!

You can still have probs, even if u've made the cd/vcd's/dvds yourself!

314170 2005-01-15 03:08:00 Tried using a method such as TAO (Track at once) or SAO (Session at once) as opposed to DAO (Disk at once)? Edward (31)
314171 2005-01-15 03:36:00 using the very latest nero (as in the ultra very latest lol ) , i think theres a problem with the interaction between the cdrw and dvdrw,

might try burning TAO this time.. see what happens :-)
