313808 2005-01-14 03:00:00 When my boys are playing this game - after a while it starts to slow down, it has sometimes caused the computer to freeze. Our computer is an AMD Athlon XP 3200 with 1Gb Ram & the graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

313811 2005-01-14 04:55:00 Just a stab in the dark... but it could be your graphics card that is the bottleneck. Even though minimum specs are for a 64MB card, it would seem you need to have a DX9b compatible card. Have a look here (www.pantherproducts.co.uk) for more information.

It should be said that the FX5200 is a bit gutless to say then least and in most cases does deliver less than average performance.

313812 2005-01-14 05:21:00 hi christinepaul,
have you done a recent virus and spyware scan recently?
give AVG (www.grisoft.com), spybot (www.safer-networking.org) and adaware (www.lavasoftusa.com) a wirl, and make sure they are up to date.

also download the latest patch for the game, it may work, its found here (www.totalwar.com)
what version of windows are you running?

313813 2005-01-14 12:52:00 You might want to see what other programmes are running at the same time. What do you have going in your Startup folder? Greg (193)
313814 2005-01-14 12:58:00 Christine, Rome runs fine on my 5200 with antialiasing OFF. what you should do is go into the game options and put all the settings on their lowest/turned off etc, then see how it goes. It will look crap but should run. Then, turn a few up, like put, say, Vegetation detail from low to medium. Repeat for the different settings until you strike a balance between looks and performance. 313815 2005-01-14 15:32:00 A program that plays well at first then gradually slows down is a classic sign of a memory leak. This is a programming issue where the resources the program is using aren't released properly as it moves from one operation to another until at some point the resources are fully utilized resulting in a slowdown.

Have you installed the latest patch from their website?
