1378154 2014-06-29 22:08:00 I have an Acer Z5610 All In One, at least once per day, sometimes twice, the computer simply lock's up. The picture and or text on the screen remains, but there is nothing I can do to remove it, except to switch the power off and on again. I then have a perfectly functioning computer, until the next episode !

Before it crashes or after, there are no messages at all. Being an All In One means I am unable to take a look inside it.

Would appreciate any advise to try to fix it. Oh the computer is around 3 years old, if that helps.

If I happen to have the audio system switched on when the lockup occurs, there is a loud unpleasant noise coming from the speakers, switching the power off
and on again stops that.

I downloaded the procedure's to open up the case, but that would be way beyond me, it looks so complicated :-(

1378155 2014-06-29 22:14:00 Probably not a good idea turning it off all the time. It may corrupt the hdd . Or make things worse. But its not crashing is it?? It just freezes?? When it happens can you open task manager? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1378156 2014-06-29 22:23:00 My first guess would be a hardware issue. An all in 1 is not going to be a simple fix.
Try a memory test. Down a program called Memtest86+ , burn to CD & boot from that. Leave it going all day.

Try a restore/reload of Windows. Dont load ANYTHING else untill you are sure its stable.
If it still has issues after a clean restore/reload of Win, you could try for a CGA repair, only 3years so you will still be covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act

Hmm, had not thought about the corrupting of the Hdd. No I "Don't" know if it has crashed, but if I don't switch the power off and on again, nothing will
ever change. I have tried many key combinations. to try an wake it up, but nothing worked. Oh, when it happens task manager or anything else will not
work.

1378158 2014-06-29 22:54:00 Hmm looks like other people are getting freezes, or crashes too

Here (answers.microsoft.com) here (community.acer.com)

I would get something like bluescreenview (www.nirsoft.net), see if it is crashing. See if it loads any dmp files

1378159 2014-06-29 23:20:00 As 1101 suggested, could be a Hardware problem. As a guess if it is, I'd say either HDD failing, OR Memory.

Have a look in the eventvwr logs under windows Logs /system - Sometimes it will show something other times not.

To check the Drive you can run CrystalDiskInfo (crystalmark.info) on the drive see if its throwing up warnings.

With those All in ones, its not to hard to replace the HDD or Memory, the fun bits finding how to get the covers off, some are easier than others. They are nothing more than an over sized laptop :)

Crystaldisk info showed seek error rate, current 100, worst 253 and spin up time, current 163, worst 157, all others were perfect, so that's good.

I put a computer fan underneath the air input at the bottom of the computer. The airflow output, at the top of the case dropped by around 5 d C, so I am happy with both of those. Intend to leave the fan going all the time the computer is going and it will not take long to discover if airflow, thus heat was a contributing factor. Think I will leave the HDD and memory problems till later and meantime concentrate on the easier one's :-) Thanks for help !
