1377594 2014-06-20 23:21:00 OS: Win8.1

Just checked my Device Manager and found the following with yellow exclamation marks:

5788

Properties showed the following:

5789

Any idea what are they?

Could it be the changes which I just made to change my boot drive from IDE to AHCI?

My Win8.1 boots and works fine though.

1377595 2014-06-20 23:54:00 Did you install the chipset drivers? Delete them , then reboot. See it windows installs anything. Altho maybe SATA drivers. Get them off the mobo maker's site then install them Speedy Gonzales (78)
1377596 2014-06-21 02:31:00 Unfortunately, there's no Win8 drivers available for this MB.

I think, it's after my Windows Update which I applied 2 days ago. Probably it's the optical drives drivers - they disappeared after the after dates; I didn't check the device manager at that time.

Is there any where to check (identify) what are they?

To check what they are -- From the window you had open before, click on the "Details" tab, under the Property Drop Down box, select Hardware ID's -- Copy down what it says, then do a google search ( unless its obvious) Often in doing that you find a solution to the problem as well :)

1377598 2014-06-21 03:00:00 This is what I got:

197b-2363
Internal_IDE_Channel

Googled, without much luck.

1377599 2014-06-21 03:45:00 JMicron AHCI / SATA controller Speedy Gonzales (78)
1377600 2014-06-21 04:09:00 Gigabyte doesn't seem to have JMicron AHCI /SATA controller for this MB, not even for Win7.

MB: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R ver 2

1377601 2014-06-21 04:31:00 Download the GIGABYTE SATA2 Preinstall driver (www.gigabyte.co.nz) from the site

Make sure you select the right one tho. If you use 32 bit get the Win7 32 bit drivers or 64 bit. These may or may not work in Win8

1377602 2014-06-21 05:16:00 Thanks, Speedy. the Gigabyte SATA2 preinstall driver for Win7 x64 seems to work with Win8, too. :)

Just out of curiosity, how do you know that this SATA2 preinstall driver is for JMicron AHCI /SATA controller?
