I think it was a power to weight thing, the older ones were very heavy. So not exactly new and I am not trying to put you off, just advising you of a potential issue that used to exist and still might. Test for yourself :) |

| 1363146 | 2013-12-21 07:35:00 | The older ones were available with a 1.8, 2L, 2L GT and 2L Turbo, all the 2L ones go fine. The later Caldinas I don't know a lot about, except the motor in the ZT ones are apparently crap (1AZ-FSE) mostly because they don't like NZ fuels. They are designed to be a low emissions engine. forums.toyspeed.org.nz |

| 1363147 | 2013-12-21 23:56:00 | I feel the need to comment on my new-to-me Mondeo. In a short sentence... its the most boring car ever conceived and brought into production. After having it for a few days: The Good: It looks ok; It drives nice; Its fuel friendly; This version has all the introduction model problems sorted; Its high tech - with latest stability and all-thu-whatnot-shizza braking controls; Decent rear space for passengers; Other gizmos and shizza included; Good local servicing, being a ford; Decent acceleration from the modest engine; Very good braking (in my quick test earlier); The Bad: Old man's car; I used to drive an Alfa now I'm reduced to this; Makes me forget my reason for living; *sigh* |

Mondeo maybe boring but would take that over an alfa anyday | plod (107) | ||

| 1363150 | 2013-12-23 04:06:00 | [QUOTE=pctek;1185017]I can tell you you'd get more than that off Trademe. Dealers always offer low $ so they can add a huge markup./QUOTE] When trading in any used car in New Zealand you will get sod all for it - The explanation is simple, a dealer is going to offer a good bit less than he can land a used Jap import for, and as these jap import cars carry at least 150% and frequently 200% mark up on landed cost, it is not rocket science to work out why dealers will pay so little for trade ins. A car in a dealers yard with a window price of $16995, has a planned selling price between $15495 and $14995, to give the punter a feel good pretend discount, and cost the dealer no more than $6500 if he was the importer, or $8500 if it was imported on his behalf. It is over 9 years since I left NZ and this was the proportional relationship on jap imports then, prices will have gone up since but the ratios will be much the same. |

After having it for a few days: *sigh* You could have bought a Toyota - "Whitewear on Wheels" Modern cars, unless you are prepared to buy European performance Cars, are all boring, predictable, reasonably reliable, aimed at a predominantly budget conscious market. |

| 1363152 | 2013-12-23 09:55:00 | 5) Another $1.5K may go to various places for advertising or printing billboards for you, listing on certain websites etc Usually you are charged for all advertising. I agree with Cic that it is a rip off. |
