Is it really um normal so to speak to have warm beer in England? I've got a really good English mate who has never drank warm beer - here or there.

1363380 2013-12-30 21:46:00 The price of beer in Australia always astounds me (especially given the climate in most places). The excise duty on beer is absolutely horrendous in Oz. If you're going in to stay for a week for so, it's almost worth buying beer duty free rather than spirits. Coming back to NZ, of course, still worth buying spirits....

The same "smash em with taxes" applies to spirits, I bought two bottles of Wild Turkey for $59, a single bottle at the bottle shop is $64

I know a few people (mostly girls) who admit to liking Export Gold because their isn't so much flavour/aftertaste/whatever

The vast majority of beer is brewed to have as little taste as possible. As far as the mass brewed stuff goes I prefer Export Gold, But its pointless trying to pick a better beer between any of the big brands. Tui, Export Gold, VB, XXXX and all the rest are all much of the same.

I can't even drink Tui yet I wouldn't call it worse then Export Gold.

So you're right - its usually served via the pipes from the cellar and at just a temperature to make it easier to slip down the throat with a "warm" sense of satisfaction. My years over there says it is so! :D Greg (193)

Ah thanks for clarifying that for me :)

1363384 2013-12-30 22:59:00 I think chilling most mainstream kiwi beers is a good idea,
as at anything much above four degrees Celsius you will run the risk of tasting it. :D
Those poms seem to be able to make beer I enjoy the taste of, although certainly not all of them are good by any means.
So it's home brew made with malt, not sugar.
Or when out, Monteiths Black if it's on tap.

Cheers Ears!!
Happy Old Year!

1363385 2013-12-30 23:23:00 But Johcar... you're a purist... how can we compare!? (I shoulda taken up that Xmas invitation from you years ago, if for nothing else, to teach you the wholesome betterment of mankind via beer!)

I daresay my experience has increased substantially since that offer was made! :D

1363386 2013-12-31 00:11:00 Definitely not the cheapest place to drink, but had a couple at Leuvens in Wellington today. Waht made the experience great was that I hadn't been in there for three years, and the manager remembered my name, gave me a complimentary Brune to welcome me back, and the barmaids were nice and friendly. the_bogan (9949)

Served at room temp? Just that their rooms are colder?

I'm off to the strip club, definitely not the cheapest place to drink ($14 a pre-mix JD) But the barmaids are nasty.
