Ahhh yes - Air New Zealand.

It might be an appropriate time to remind some that Air New Zealand was owned by us taxpayers, but in 1989 was sold to a consortium headed by Brierley Investments.

Wouldn’t you know it, it went tits up and in 2001 us taxpayers had to fork out another $885m to save the day.

Oh yes, then there was NZ Rail, another State Asset sale that came back to haunt us.

How long I wonder before the Mum & Dad investors and Tax Payers have to bail out a Power Company? :D

Now now. To be fair, KiwiRail is being choked by its government owners now as well.

1362526 2013-12-15 02:48:00 I’m afraid we are going to have to remind our present Politicians that we are a Democracy, not a Dictatorship, and they are Our Servants.
D

How do we do that?
NZ is doing a terrific job of turning itself into Africa. Sell everything that generates income to overseas owners, sell off the land.

Soon we'll be living like they do....

Neither major party are any good, they both do it.

1362527 2013-12-15 04:21:00 At this point one gets that emasculated feeling

If it's any consultation, think what it would be like to live in Libya or Columbia.

1362528 2013-12-15 06:21:00 The level of incompetency and arrogance achieved by the present government knows no bounds .

Their banging GST up to 15% across the board was outrageous in itself .

But their ongoing Separatist Race Based Policies designed to divide the Country doesn’t bear thinking about .

The holding of Referendums and then totally ignoring them is third world .

And then the selling of our biggest earning State Enterprise’s is pure folly .

I could go on but that will do for now . :D

For me they have on those points alone disqualified themselves of getting my vote .

Moving onto Labour:

Well how could you vote for them?

Their major policy is to have it compulsory to have 50% menopausal women running the country . Don’t worry about the best suited to the job, 50% must be gender based .
Even my wife was laughing her head off at the proposition .

Moving onto the Greens:

Well they are a Religion, not a Political Party . They’re run by an ex Australian Communist that couldn’t make it in Aus but is finding it easier here . They haven’t had a good idea yet and I’m not holding my breath .

Well that’s three that have disqualified themselves .

So what’s left? Well there are the “Race Based” Party’s that don’t even have the support of those they are supposed to represent . They haven’t produced a damn thing to justify their Wages and Perks so far and never will .

So they’re out too .

I guess that leaves us with the Democrats and NZ First who do tick a couple of boxes and deserve further consideration I think .

Maybe a mixture of these two could pull the others into line?

1362530 2013-12-15 08:42:00 The referendum was an expensive joke that means nothing. Noone can read anything in to the numbers. I didn't vote because there was no point. Plenty of others were the same. wotz (335)
1362531 2013-12-15 08:52:00 I didn't vote because there was no point. Plenty of others were the same.Pointless or not, I made sure to vote so I could have my say. Whether it's listened to or not is another question, but if everyone had this attitude no one would vote.If they don't listen, I vote them out ;) pcuser42 (130)

Very well said. Far better that we have referenda than none at all.

Cunliffe is the whimp!!! Last night he stated that he would only wait and see if he had enough in the coffers before he would to commit to a buy back.

Yes, particularly as Labour (Michael Cullen) was instrumental in making the Crown accounts transparent so there are no surprises for an incoming govt. The books are open and as Leader of the Opposition he has direct access to Treasury.

He and Russell Norman already know that as a government you:

1. Borrow or
2. Sell some stuff or
3. Raise taxes

None of the credible Opposition parties have promised to borrow $4-5 billion to buy back the 50% sold. The Greens have a halfway solution which is ok but doesn't help to pay the govts bills.

80% of voters said no to the anti smacking laws referendum but the then Labor/Green government thought it was just fine to ignore that vote. I fail to see any reason to get upset that National ignores this one.

To be accurate, almost our entire Parliament of all political parties voted in favour of stopping parents hitting their children. 118 MPs in favour, 3 MPs against.

How about cutting ones Coat to suit ones Cloth? ;)

I suggest cutting the waste (like non-binding referendums) would be a good place to start. :D
