| 1363216 | 2013-12-22 13:13:00 | Oh calm down guys. There are many interesting molecules constructed by plants and insects which we don't know much about. Maori are as likely as anyone to have knowledge of esoteric plant based medicine from NZ plants. There is a mega-million drug research going on in the Amazon. And in a smaller way in Papua New Guinea. In those places there are animals insects and plants which are not yet known to western biologists. Every year new creatures are discovered. So lets not disparage the flora which has developed in an obscure place like NZ. It may prove to be very valuable. |

| 1363217 | 2013-12-22 18:11:00 | Yes, early Maori were well known to have treated broken bones by wrapping them in Dock Leaves. Orthopaedic Surgeons world wide have failed to embrace that method of treatment. Which begs the question of why only Maori were singled out and given $2.4M of Taxpayers money? If there is anything to be gained by investigating witchdoctor’s methods and the like, then everyone should be entitled to share the funds, not just Maori. |
