1362378 2013-12-12 05:12:00 Anyone familiar with these things? We're paying $80 to SkyTV every month so this can be an option .... Nomad (952)
1362379 2013-12-13 01:15:00 Theres are dozens of different stb iptv device from China offering free or paid chinese tv . But really it needs a flatrate broadband account to get the most out of it.

1362380 2013-12-13 04:32:00 Thanks ... on a 30Mbps fiber connection, will check it out. 100GB could add more data. We are paying $80NZ/mo for SD with the sides chopped off .... :annoyed: been doing so for 10yrs. Without the standard Sky channels b/c that would be >$100/mo. Nomad (952)
1362381 2013-12-13 11:48:00 Yeah. I had 1 but then my friend lent it to her mother watch it.
Pretty cheap and it did say at least a 2mbps connection. My other friend who bought it from me living in Te Awamutu was on a 4mbps and it streamed find at 720P.

Lots of stuff to watch. There's a movie section and a drama section and not only are there chinese/Hong Kong/Japanese channels there were also discovery, animal planet and other english channels.

There's alot to choose from , It pays to check the list of channels they have.
I had a Maige HD, there were about 200 channels all up.
There were 200 movies to choose from altogether.

It was about $300 for the box , $150NZ for a year subscription and you can take it anywhere to watch as long as there's an internet connection.

DOn't really understand why people still waste so much money having Sky.
I probably go for 200GB+ data

1362384 2013-12-14 05:43:00 Thanks will check out the TVPad, a friend has it already ...

Thing is we're paying $80/mo for standard definition and it is less sharp than Freeview Channel 28 (also SD). But the $80 package the sides are cut off. We can get Sky HD but that likely to be $125+ for the HD Standard Sky channels but the Asian channels will again be in SD and cropped out.

I heard in Australia and North America you can get a actual HKG TVB subscription for likes of $50AU via Sat dish or the likes (non data). I think the local paid for television is good in that the programmes are rescheduled for our timezones. So we get a proper morning news / finance / morning talkback shows, then cartoons as kids come back from school then it's the evening news and then the drama / movies begin (including NZ News by their local team in their language). The IPTV approach isn't tailored for each timezone but we can backdate and view a past show "on demand". But then again we only get like 2 or 3 channels that we watch with Sky and it's in SD and cropped out.

1362385 2013-12-14 13:21:00 the maige box I had, had about 5 tvb channels like, English, sport, drama..
according to my dad the stuff is sorta life with a bit of a delay so what's showing on the player was only aired in Hong Kong a few minutes ago.
I Don't recommend satellite ones. My friend has that but they are all mainland Chinese channels. The news are all bias and it's full of Communist rubbish

1362386 2013-12-15 10:49:00 Yes you can also get the TVB paid for subscription satellite service here in New Zealand . Same size dish as Sky
