1362304 2013-12-11 18:07:00 Has anyone been through there recently or spoken to anyone that has?
I have friend coming out form Russia in February and she has asked if we could go and see it.

It costs $75 per person for the visit.. Doesn't look or sound like very good value to me.

Any comments would be welcome.

1362305 2013-12-11 19:28:00 Its great value. A friend of mine took a work friend of hers who was from Colorado through it. They both had a great time. I think the tours run every half hour. Well worth doing. She posted some cool pics up on Facebook of her standing in front of one of the Hobbit doorways. Webdevguy (17166)
1362306 2013-12-11 21:09:00 Depends how big a fan you are I guess. If all you get to do is look at a movie set for a short while it sounds like a rip off to me. I hope there's more to it than that.
I am a fan of the movie but I wouldn't pay that without something special to make it worthwhile. I got to see some of Hobbiton during filming of the first lord of the rings movie through my job, saw about 30 seconds of movie footage as it was sent to wellington for editing, and had lunch in a tent with some of the extras in full Hobbit costume. All very cool I guess but I wouldn't have paid for that either :)

1362307 2013-12-12 07:45:00 My wife and i went through a few months ago.
Not to impressed with the price but having been there It is worth the price.
Have since re watched the movies and seeing the way they have shot the scenes is very interesting.
the high cost goes towards maintaining the whole set with plants, gardens etc, and they do a great job.
Bottom line- go for it. It is unique.

1362311 2013-12-16 15:31:00 Thanks for the comments. It seems from this and other searches that people seem to be equally divided as to whether it is worth while or not.
Guess I will just have to go see for myself.

1362312 2013-12-16 18:32:00 Its like all entertainment in NZ
very exe.
Due to our small population and therefore low traffic.

My brother went and he said it was good.

1362313 2013-12-16 18:36:00 Quite right Digby. If they were getting 3,000,000 visitors a month they could make it much cheaper.

Were you an ant in a previous incarnation? ;)
