314817 2005-01-16 09:43:00 I am trying to recover data (some jpeg files) off my hard-drive that crashed. I have set it up as a secondary slave on another PC and when I start-up I am informed that the last cluster on the faulty drive cannot be read, probable causes are thet it is not LBA enabled or partition not correctly labelled as a non-LBA partition.
I am then asked if I want to run a scandisk at this stage, which I dont, so therefore I cannot get past this stage of the start-up sequence to get a look at hard-drive contents via windows explorer.
I have maxed out my knowledge at this stage and would appreciate any help.
Cheers Todd

314818 2005-01-16 10:00:00 Maybe you should let scandisk run. It's quite possible that scandisk can fix the problem with the cluster.

Failing that you may need some sort of data recovery program... I recommend a program called "Recover My Files" but if the clusters are faulty then it won't work.

Try scandisk and see how you go.

cheers

314822 2005-01-17 10:16:00 Don't run scandisk at this stage as you will probably trash your data. First check out how your Bios is recognising the drive as that could be the problem. Scandisk can in some circumstances do more harm than good. mikebartnz (21)
314823 2005-01-17 18:26:00 I'd also recommend using SPINRITE available from www.grc.com EX-WESTY (221)
314824 2005-01-18 09:53:00 Spinrite is one top program but before using anything like that make sure the Bios is recognising the drive properly mikebartnz (21)
