| 315325 | 2005-01-18 02:44:00 | I was just going to ask the same question, it has just started today I think When ever I load a pressf1 or pcworld site the download manager starts to attempt to download acvcbd.aspx It only does it on my Mac browser and not IE or Firefox I suspect it has something to do with the netratings script on the site. Internet Explorer and Firefox don't do it here for some reason . I checked out the Opera forums earlier and it has something to do with the ad server doing things that it shouldn't so my guess is that there have been some changes going on with the ads today . I sent Mary a private message an hour or so ago which she is yet to see . |

| 315329 | 2005-01-18 03:18:00 | Until the webmasters provide a permanent fix Opera users can change their preferences to stop the popup box appearing. Alt+P>File Types>Remove tick from "Hide file types....">scroll to application/octet-stream>Edit>Action>Open with Opera. Change it back after the problem is fixed because it can affect your downloads - they will also open in Opera unless you right click and Save As to download. |

| 315330 | 2005-01-18 03:42:00 | It is a script, and Firefox does load it - but unlike the cases above it does not open a separate download box and ask you for permission. The site works perfectly well if you disable scripts, but it is there to gather market research statistics for PCWorld. Since PCWorld/IDG is nice enough to provide a free forum, and free articles, and since it is a reputeable site(s), I don't mind running the script so much. While you are at it, if you are going allow scripts in Firefox, make sure you do not allow them to do crazy stuff like disable/move/resize windows or status bars, change images etc. In fact, in the Preferences/WebFeatures/EnableJavaScript/Advanced menu, untick all options. |

| 315332 | 2005-01-18 05:10:00 | glad it's not just me... thought my tinkering had gotten the better of me. Using Opera I just went to Preferences |Multimedia and unticked enable java script and enable java which stopped it. |

| 315333 | 2005-01-18 19:07:00 | firstly, if there's ever any problems please send me an email (mary[at]idg.co.nz) or use the email function on the forum - i'm more likely to see an email :o I'll talk to the guys about it when they get in this morning - its obviously something that mediaone has changed, and we cant control that. sorry if its a pest! maybe you could make the change that opera suggest in the meantime. |
