315424 2005-01-18 09:21:00 I have used WS Ftp for years but now use the built in FTP in Dreamweaver. I don't think you can get WS Ftp for free any more but the copy I have is an older one and was free when I got it. Let me know if ya want to try it, only 500k berryb (99)
315425 2005-01-18 09:51:00 Um. It's quite simple really.

Open up My Computer. In the address bar type ftp://[some ftp site].

Enter your username and password.

Drag whatever you like into the folder.........

No need for a client.

well i cant seem to get to my login page, i need to log in here (www.csc.school.nz) and then upload stuff,
the site in question is this (www.csc.school.nz)

i thought a program would be easier than opening a browser to upload files.... but i think its just me and ive done something wrong..

315427 2005-01-18 10:45:00 Umm perhaps they don't alllow FTP access to that server, hence you have to use a web interface?

Edit: Seems they do, and allow anonymous logins :-O

If you FTP to the site, using a normal FTP program try:

FTP Hostname: www.csc.school.nz
FTP Username: normalusername
FTP Password: normalpassword

Set the inital remote directory to csc.school.nz or once you're logged in go:
cd csc.school.nz

That should work. Or try the following in IE:

ftp://username:password@www.csc.school.nz/csc.school.nz/

Obviously substituting your details.

To test the access with an anonymous account use:

ftp://anonymous:omghi2u@someisp.net@www.csc.school.nz/csc.school.nz/

Edit2: It looks more and more like you don't actually have an FTP account, rather a web only username and password. Just poking around further on that server.

Mike:
Mozilla Firefox doesnt appear to allow uploading?

Berryb:
AFAIK you can still get ws_ftpLE free all over the place. Good piece of software that faithfully served me for years.

I would still suggest you open my computer as mentioned and:
ftp://username:password@domainname.co.nz

315433 2005-01-19 05:22:00 well after a bit of playing around with trying to upload to my site, i still cant manage to do it.
when i upload stuff, i log in and go here (www.csc.school.nz).
notice the address,www.csc.school.nz

where do i enter that address in the ftp program ws_ftp?

i tried to do as ninja's post said but it doesnt work, i can get to the folder but there is nothing there, even when i upload through the browser.

i hope that makes sense
