315602 2005-01-19 01:53:00 I have been battling a couple of viruses(anything to avoid re-install).Today I decided to turn off system restore, uninstall zone alarm then re-install(in case the Wife had "allowed "something she shouldn't have).during the process of doing all this I ran spybot,it showed "possible extension hijack"(2 entries which I deleted)NOW I can't run any of my regular bits and pieces,I also can't re-open spybot to repair what I did there, nor can I reset system restore as the system folder in control panel has no file association to open with.I can't re-install zone alarm as it also has no file association to execute it.Does anyone have any decent suggestions???.I also tried to run my original XP Home cd in repair mode, but it wants a password which was never set,I press enter to ignore this, then it just sits there and sulks. 315603 2005-01-19 01:57:00 Its because Windows has lost the ability to recorgnise an EXE file extension,Seen this many a time.

Kelly's corner has a reg fix that cures the issue, Havent got time to find a link at the mo but if no one else does in the meantime then i will track it down.

Windows has lost the ability to do many things reliably and securely that you would expect from a modern operating system.

I feel sorry for you too.
