315551 2005-01-18 18:47:00 I've got a Canon MPC200 running on window's XP. The printer was working fine but now when i go to print it come's up with "cannot connect to device, please make sure it is turned on & plugged in etc"

I have tried reinstalling the driver with no luck, i have also tried installing the XP patch on the Canon website (The printer was working fine before the patch & did for a wee while after the patch)

When i pull the USB plug out of the printer it makes the noise of a USB device being disconnected & does the same when i replug it in (this to me would mean the computer recognises the USB & printer)

The printer shows up in device manager, and is set to run from a USB port, i have also checked the USB plug and it works fine

Any suggestion's?

315552 2005-01-18 19:21:00 when installing a usb device it is usually most wise to NOT plug in the usb cable while you first start the software install.......at some point the software will say somethin like 'make sure that the device is plugged in and turned on' do so at that point...............failing that ........use startbutton/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore to set the system back to a time when it WAS working........ drcspy (146)
315553 2005-01-18 20:30:00 Uninstall the software for the printer / drivers. Unplug it.

Then reinstall the software again. Wait for some window to appear asking for the printer. Then plug the USB cable back in. See what happens.

Did u put it online?? If it has an online button on the printer?? It may have been on. BUT if it isnt online, obviously it wont print anything.

Thats the only thing with multi function devices. They have so many things built in they tend to break down, one way or another!

315554 2005-01-18 20:46:00 The printer is online i have checked that.

The thing is when i uninstall the printer & then plug it back in it comes up with "windows detects new hardware Cannon MPC200) so the computer recognises it before any drivers are installed.

I will try tonight to install the driver and not plug the printer in till it prompts me too, but soon as i plug it in Windows XP pops up with its install hardware thing window so i should just cancell that & install it manually?

When the printer is plugged in it comes up in the Add Remove Hardware window where my USB ADSL modem etc is, so does this mean the computer is communicating with it ? It must recognise its there

315555 2005-01-18 21:01:00 "so i should just cancell that & install it manually?"..........and yes it's communicating but not *properly* by the looks of it........hmmmmm.........i've seen similar and installed the hardware as I've suggested without the printer plugged in until the program requests it..........then haaving restarted i've had the windows new hardware wizard come on........and the only way I managed to install that particular printer was to do *my* method first and then the windoze one.............cant tell you why it worked but it did.......... drcspy (146)

I would see if there are later drivers on the Canon website (If theyre later than whats on the CD). Or install them from the CD that came with the printer. (If the drivers etc are the same as whats on the site).

Sometimes, XP drivers dont always work properly, with some devices, you have. Download the drivers from the Canon site (if theyre there), remove/uninstall all software for the printer. From the previous install. Reinstall the drivers, you get from the Canon site, (or CD) reboot. Then plug the printer back in. Hopefully, it should INSTALL the drivers/software u downloaded from the Canon website.
